a. Set Up Wallet

In order to connect with Horizon Protocol, you will need a wallet. For this guide we will be using Metamask as an example. However, you can use various wallets as an alternative.

Connect Wallet interface powered by Blocknative

This guide will walk you through the entire process of creating a new wallet. Should you already have a wallet and are you only interested in connecting to the correct network? In that case you can skip ahead to step #10. Step 1: Creating New Wallet

As soon as you have installed Metamask, the first thing you will have to do is either create a new wallet, or import an existing one using your secret seed phrase.

For the purpose of this guide we will be creating a new wallet.

Step 2: Opt in/Opt out

The first question you will be asked is whether you want to opt in or out of helping the developers of Metamask to improve their service by providing them with anonymized data from your usage. This is entirely up to you.

Step 3: Create Password

Next you will need to create a password for your wallet. We advise you to create a complex password including numbers and symbols to further increase your wallet’s security. Do make sure that you securely save this password.

Step 4: Secure Your Wallet

Before getting started, MetaMask has a video ready for anyone unfamiliar with self-custodial wallets. This means that you are the only person who has custody over your funds. An important part here is the Secret Recovery Phrase. When you click on “secure my wallet”, it will bring you immediately to your 12-word phrase.

Step 5: Write Down Your Secret Recovery Phrase

You will be met with the screen above. When you click on “reveal” you will see your 12 words with which anyone, anywhere can recover your wallet. Which is why it is so important to write this down and keep it somewhere safe where only you can decide who has access to it!

Once you have revealed your phrase and written it down, or copied and saved it somewhere safe, you can click on next.

Step 6: Confirm Secret Recovery Phrase

Now you will have to confirm your phrase by filling in the blanks with the correct words.

Step 7: Wallet Completion

You have now successfully created your own wallet. We will now proceed to configuring it to have it work with Horizon Futures Testnet V2.

Step 8: Connecting To Horizon Protocol

When you go to Horizon Protocol App you will see the “connect wallet” button in the top right corner. Click on it.

You will be shown the “available wallets”, as shown in the first screenshot of this section. Click on MetaMask.

Step 9: Grant Access

You will now receive a prompt window from your wallet asking you to confirm the connection. Should there be no wallet prompt despite the web page showing “connecting…”, click on the little wallet icon in the top right of your browser and it should appear then. Click on “Next”, then click on “Connect”.

Step 10: Change Network (if necessary)

Horizon Protocol runs on the BNB Chain (formerly Binance Smart Chain). For this reason, we will need to connect with the BNB Chain network. You can select the network before connecting to Horizon Protocol. If the Horizon Protocol dApp recognizes that you are not connected to the correct network, it will suggest adding and/or switching to the correct network. Click on “Approve” and in the next window on “Switch Network”.

Done! You have now created a new wallet and have successfully connected to Horizon Protocol. If your experienced issues when connecting to BNB Chain, try our BNB Chain Network Set Up Guide. Other way, you are now ready to get the necessary funds to start trading!
